Itinerary

Night 1 – Welcome to Chiang Mai & Hotel Check-In

We know travel can be exhausting, so we’ve included an extra night in Chiang Mai to help you unwind before the adventure begins. Settle into your hotel, soak in the relaxed vibe of northern Thailand, and get ready for the ride of a lifetime. The next morning, we’ll collect you from your hotel at 7:30 AM. From there, it’s a hearty breakfast at Route 66 Bikers Cafe, followed by paperwork, a safety briefing, and bike handover. Then, we hit the road.

Day 1 – Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong via the Golden Triangle (280 KM)

We kick off in Chiang Mai, winding up toward the stunning Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. From misty mountain temples to lush jungle roads, the ride sets the stage for an epic journey. En route, visit hill tribe communities and scenic elephant camps tucked into the jungle. By the afternoon, we roll into the laid-back mountain town of Pai, famous for its bohemian vibe and sunset views.

Day 2 – Chiang Khong to Huay Xai to Luang Namtha (150 KM)

Today we cross into a new country and a new chapter of the adventure. From Chiang Khong, we glide across the Mekong into Laos at Huay Xai. The change in scenery and energy is immediate, new smells, new smiles, and a rich tapestry of Lao culture. Huay Xai’s riverside charm greets us with buzzing markets and the scent of sizzling street food. We continue on winding roads through mountain terrain, heading toward Luang Namtha. This remote town, surrounded by natural beauty and ethnic diversity, gives us our first real taste of Laos. The evening is ours to explore, with local eateries, quiet temples and friendly faces make for a relaxing end to an exhilarating day.

Day 3 – Luang Namtha to Boten to Oudomxay (145 KM)

We hit the road early, passing through misty hills and sleepy villages. The day’s ride is a scenic one, with mountain passes offering breathtaking views and moments of pure freedom. A brief stop in Boten, a quiet border town, marks the halfway point. Then, it’s on to Luang Prabang, a city like no other. This UNESCO World Heritage site blends French colonial charm with ancient Buddhist soul. As we arrive, golden temples and tree lined streets greet us, and the city’s relaxed energy is instantly soothing. By night, we’re exploring vibrant markets or enjoying a quiet riverside dinner. It’s a long ride, but Luang Prabang is the kind of destination that makes every kilometre worthwhile.

Day 4 – Oudomxay to Luang Prabang

Depart at first light, weaving your way through lush green jungle on winding roads of asphalt and gravel that hug misty creeks and cross rickety wooden bridges. As you climb into the highlands, the air cools noticeably before you descend into secluded valleys where villagers transport bundles of wood on ox-drawn carts around midday.

As you near Luang Prabang, the surroundings evolve—colonial-era villas wrapped in blooming bougainvillea give way to timeworn monasteries where orange-robed monks move quietly beneath carved archways. Settle into your riverside accommodation by late afternoon, perfectly positioned between the town’s colorful night bazaar and a cozy French patisserie. Take a sunset stroll through lanes lined with aged teak homes before making your way to Pak Ou Caves, where thousands of Buddha statues rest in the limestone chambers above the Mekong. Later, return to town to sample spicy local bites and shop for artisanal crafts. End the evening with a buttery croissant and a bold cup of Lao-style coffee.

Day 5 – Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng (185 KM)

With the bikes humming again, we leave Luang Prabang and ride into the heart of Laos. The road is dotted with natural wonders, like the serene Nam Xuang Buddha Cave, hidden among limestone hills. We pause at Pha Tang Viewpoint, where sweeping vistas demand a photo, or a few moments of quiet awe. By afternoon, we arrive in Vang Vieng, a town known for its laid-back atmosphere and dramatic karst landscapes. Whether you choose to relax by the Nam Song River or explore caves and tubing adventures, Vang Vieng offers the perfect blend of excitement and chill. As the sun sets, the river reflects the surrounding cliffs, another unforgettable backdrop on this ever-changing ride.

Day 6 – Vang Vieng to Vientiane (190 KM)

Our final day in Laos begins with a visit to Tham Chang Cave, where cool air and cliffside views provide a peaceful morning start. From there, we cruise toward the Nam Ngum Reservoir, soaking in its calm waters and rural beauty. Vientiane welcomes us with wide boulevards, temples, and colonial echoes. The city’s charm is subtle yet full of character. After a quick tour, we head to the border and re-enter Thailand at Nong Khai. It’s a symbolic moment, closing the loop between two nations. With the Mekong behind us and the road still calling, we reflect on all that’s passed. Though the border’s been crossed, the spirit of the journey lingers strong.

Day 7 – Rest day – Explore Vientiane

After days on the move, today offers a slower rhythm as we take a well-earned rest in Vientiane, the laid-back capital of Laos. With no need to pack or plan, the city invites gentle exploration—wander leafy boulevards lined with crumbling French architecture, or sip coffee in a riverside café as saffron-robed monks pass by. Visit That Luang, the country’s most sacred stupa, glowing gold in the midday sun, or stroll through local markets brimming with handmade crafts and fragrant street food. There’s time to reflect, recharge, and enjoy the city’s quiet charm. As dusk settles, find a spot along the Mekong to watch the sky turn amber, a peaceful pause before the journey continues.

Day 8 – Vientiane to Nong Khai to Lom Sak (264km)

Begin your morning journey heading east toward the border crossing at Nong Khai, where the transition back into Thailand is seamless. Once across, the road leads you past patchworks of farmland and sleepy hamlets, guiding you toward the forested hills of Phu Kao–Phu Phan Kham National Park.

If time permits, stretch your legs with a walk through its cool woodland paths, or explore one of the area’s lesser-known caves tucked among weathered rock formations. Continue driving through peaceful rural landscapes, occasionally stopping at roadside stands selling fresh fruit or savory local treats.

As evening nears, arrive at your hotel nestled at the base of the Phetchabun range. It’s the perfect place to slow down, relax in comfort, and prepare for what tomorrow brings.

Day 9: Lom Sak → Nan (377 Km)

Begin your final day on the road with excitement as you leave Lom Sak behind, setting your sights on the quiet beauty of Nan. The journey kicks off with a dramatic ascent to Phu Tub Berk, a peak reaching 1,794 meters. Known for its breathtaking 111 bends, this stretch is unforgettable—especially at sunrise, when golden light spills across mist-filled valleys.

After soaking in the views, descend into cooler lowlands and drift through the serene terrain of Phu Suan Sai National Park. Towering trees, shaded bends, and the gentle rhythm of the road offer a peaceful contrast to the morning’s twists and turns.

As the day fades, you roll into the relaxed town of Nan, tucked between green hills. With its laid-back pace, riverside paths, and temples echoing centuries of tradition, it’s the perfect place to unwind, reflect, and take in the final moments of your adventure.

Day 10: Nan → Kwan Phayao → Chiang Mai (298 Km)

Depart Nan just as the sky begins to brighten, riding quiet backroads that weave through sleepy valleys and along glistening creeks. The morning unfolds with scenes of mist-laced rice terraces, hillside shrines, and villagers beginning their day amid the hush of the northern highlands.

By midday, you’ll reach the tranquil shores of Kwan Phayao, a vast lake ringed by distant peaks and lotus-filled shallows. Settle in at a local eatery for a laid-back lunch featuring crisp grilled fish, fiery som tum, and sticky rice—classic northern flavors served with a view and a breeze.

In the afternoon, continue westward, coasting through rows of coffee plants and cool forest roads. Before the final push to Chiang Mai, pause for a restorative break at Mae Kachan Hot Springs. Let the steam and mineral waters soothe road-weary muscles, or simply stretch out under the shade and enjoy a boiled-egg snack from the bubbling springs.

As Doi Suthep’s silhouette draws near, you’ll descend into the outskirts of Chiang Mai. By late afternoon, ride through the ancient city gate and settle into your hotel. That evening, come together one last time for a celebratory dinner—a lively gathering to reflect on the miles behind and the memories made across borders, mountains, and cultures.
